Finally Excited About a Project
July 5, 2023
It has been months since my last blog post and I lost interest in doing the open-source thing. I was genuinely interested in contributing to the Cal.com project, but I had to wait for designs for features they wanted to implement and the wait time made me lose interest. Since then, I've found a new thing to do and I've been working on it since June.
In short, I joined a GTA RP server and made a self insert character, trying to create websites for the companies in the game. Bouncing off the idea of my F.Art website, I created a sample site to pitch to the record labels in the server. A lot of the artists had links to their music in the Discord chat and they are never seen again once it gets buried in the feed. My idea was to create a website listing all the artists, similar to an actual record label, which will also create another layer of immersion. I had a hard time finding a way to contact the record label owners, but I did meet the owner of the taxi company which just opened up recently.
The owner, Malcom (that's the character's name), wanted a better way to keep track of his finances so he can manage his business better. Any transaction made in the game stayed inside the game. There is no way to export reports other than to manually enter each individual transaction. He is currently using Google Forms and Google Sheets which works, but kind of clunky so I'm creating a site that functions similarly to it, but (hopefully) better. The site is still a work in progress and I'll make an official post about it once I think it's good enough. There's still a lot to do, but I'm aiming for two weeks to add a few more features and to clean up my code.
7/13 Update: Got a long-term contract job so I might not have as much time to work on this so it might take longer than the expected two weeks to finish it.
